P4: Fraction of Remainder (Basic)

Fraction of a remainder is a concept similar to Fraction of a Fraction.
Student will need to know that they must not make both denominator the same if each denominator of the 2 fractions do not represent the same total.

Such questions are common in Section C of P4 exams.

Jaya has some plates in green, blue and red in colour.
1/4 of his plates are green.
5/6 of the remaining plates are blue and the rest are red.
He has 40 blue plates.

How many plates does he have altogether?

P4P5 Math: Fraction of Remaining(Simpler)

"Fraction of remaining" is a concept that requires students to be able to understand that in the 2 fractions given, one represents "Fraction of Total" and the other represents "Fraction of Remaining".

The denominators of both fractions need not be made to be the same as both represents a different value.

Such questions usually appear in Section C of P4 exam papers.

P6 Math: Fraction of a Fraction of a Fraction

This questions splits up a total value into 2 groups.
After undergoing fractional decrease for each group, both are now of equal value.

P5/P6: Remaining Fraction expressed as a Ratio

This question types presents the a total sum being split into 3 parts.

The first part is a fraction of the total. The remaining is split into a ratio of 2 unequal parts.

Such questions will start to appear in P5 exam papers once students have been taught "Fraction of Remaining" and also "Ratio".

These uestions usually appear in Paper 2.

P6 Math: Discount on an already discounted price

The following question type requires student to understand that when 2 separate discounts are given, they are not cumulative. 
(ie their numerical percentages cannot be simply added together.)

P5/P6 Math: Fractions and Ratio vs Repeated Identity

This following fraction/ratio question requires students to be able to identify the repeated identities in order to be able to make sense of the relationship between each ratio/fraction.

Each of the item is then split again into 2 types via fractions.
The relationship between 2 of the split items are given with a comparison statement.
