P4P5 Reverse Model Drawing (Before and After Fractional Change)

This exercise below aims to help students better understand before and after models by having them look at the already completed models and have them fill in the blanks to the original problem sum description.

While these are not exam questions, they help students to structure their thinking process for the formation of the equations(number sentences) needed to solve such questions.




Given the before and after model above, 
fill in the blanks.

After Luke gave away __/__ of his toy cars.
He now has equal number of toy cars as Marvin.

P4P5 : Internal Transfer Multiples (More Became Less)

This question type is very similar to the one with external transfer where the one with more became the one with less.

This one, however, is internal transfer, where the larger value gives away to the smaller value until the smaller value becomes the bigger one.

Such questions will appear in Section C of P4 exams and Paper 1 of P5 exams.
Calculator usage is not allowed.

Kieran has thrice as many marbles as Irwin at first.

P4P5 Math: Before and After Multiples (More became Less)

This type of question is a "Before and After" where the one with more, became the one with less after an external transfer.

This question requires students to draw "before and after" comparison models in order to visualize the problem sum.

Such questions are common in Section C of P4 exams and also Paper 1 of P5 exams.

P3/P4 Before and After One Party Unchanged (Start Same, End Multiples)

In such questions, 2 values are being presented to be equal at first.
One of the values undergo a change (add/subtract) and it results with the larger value becoming a multiple of the smaller value at the end.

Before and After questions are staples for P3 and P4 students as they would need to know how to visualize these questions using "Before and After Comparison Models".

Such questions are common in Section C of P3 and P4 exam papers.

Harold and Kumar has the same number of sweets at first.
After Harold ate 45 sweets,

2 parties "Before and After" comparison questions are staple section C questions in P4 exams.

The following question is a type of "One Party Changed" question.
Such questions are similar to the ones here.

But this version poses a slight challenge when students attempt to solve it via model drawing (comparison models).

Chris has 40 more erasers than Devi at first.
After Devi bought 4 more erasers,
Chris now has 5 times as many erasers as Devi.

"Before and After Comparison Models" are staple for P3 to P6 Math.

The folowing question type presents one party to be a multiple of another at first.
After both undergo an equal decrease in value, the ending comparison is another multiple of one another.

Such questions are common in P4 Section C and P5 Paper 1.

P4 Math: Before and After Multiples ( One Party Changed ) Advanced

This question is the slightly more advanced version of the "Before and After" model with one party changed. The simpler version can be found here.

Comparison models will need to be drawn to represent correctly on which is the party that changed.

Such questions usually appear in Section C of P4 SA2 exams.
