P4 Math: One Party Unchanged ( Advanced )

2 parties "Before and After" comparison questions are staple section C questions in P4 exams.

The following question is a type of "One Party Changed" question.
Such questions are similar to the ones here.

But this version poses a slight challenge when students attempt to solve it via model drawing (comparison models).

Chris has 40 more erasers than Devi at first.
After Devi bought 4 more erasers,
Chris now has 5 times as many erasers as Devi.

How many erasers did Devi have at first?

P5/P6 Math: Advance Assumption with 3 variables consisting of 1 accumulation and 2 deductions

In a former "Assumption Method" example shown here, the element of "deduction" is introduced and students will have to use a slightly different way to address the "deductions" when performing calculations using the "Assumption" method.

This question type below, requires students to be able to handle another variable and remove it from the total number of marks before using the "Assumption" method(with subtraction).

Such questions are now common in P5 SA2 Paper 2.
Calculator usage is allowed.

Alison took Mathematics Quiz containing 40 questions.
For each correct answer, 3 points will be awarded.
For each wrong answer, 2 points will be deducted.
For each question without answer, 1 point will be deducted for a blank answer.
Alison scored a total of 64 points with 9 questions that she left blank.

P4 Math: Before and After Multiples ( One Party Changed ) Advanced

This question is the slightly more advanced version of the "Before and After" model with one party changed. The simpler version can be found here.

Comparison models will need to be drawn to represent correctly on which is the party that changed.

Such questions usually appear in Section C of P4 SA2 exams.

Alan has 3 times as much money as Beth at first.
After Beth spent $18 on lunch,
Alan now has 5 times as much money as her.

P5/P6 Math: Before and After Fractional Change with Starting Difference (Advanced)

The question below require students to be able to split up 2 different quantities with the starting difference given.

Each unknown quantity is needed to split up to its corresponding fractions.
The difference between the 2 quantities at the end is given.

Such questions will appear in P5 SA2 and P6 Paper 2.
Calculator usage is allowed.

Harry has 45 more pencils than Matthew at first.
After Harry sold 1/3 of his pencils and Matthew gave 1/2 of his pencils away,

The following question type require students to be able to understand "fraction of remaining".

2 fractions are given to represent 2 items
and 2 numbers are given to represent one of the items and the final amount left.

Such questions appear in P5 and P6 exams and will be in Paper 2.

Joe started reading a novel.

He read 2/5 of the novel on Monday.
He read another 58 pages of the novel on Tuesday.
After reading 1/4 of the remaining novel on Wednesday,
he finished reading the last 96 pages of the novel on Thursday.

P5 Math: Assumption (Advance)

This P5 version of "Assumption" method is different because there is a deduction of value.

This question usually appears in paper 1 for P5 mid-year SA1 or SA2.
Calculator usage is not allowed.

Mr Guetta is a delivery rider.
He delivered 15 parcels on Monday.

For each parcel delivered on time, he will earn $5.
For each parcel delivered late, $3 will be deducted.

He received $59 for the parcels delivered on Monday.

P5/P6 Math: Fraction of Remaining (Advanced)

The question type below deals with "fraction of remainder" (with a twist).
The first fraction is not a fraction of total but a fraction of remainder.

Such questions often appear in Paper 2 starting from P5 mid year exam onwards .
Calculator usage is allowed.

In a basket containing red, green and blue beads,
56 beads were red.
1/3 of the remaining beads were green.
The blue beads make up 1/5 of all the beads in the basket.
How many beads were there altogether?
