P6 Math: Speed and Time differences given

As the syllabus refreshes itself in 2026, P6 students will no longer need to learn Distance, Speed and Time from the year 2026 onwards.

Such questions will go down in history as what the former generation of 12 year olds have learnt and were able to solve(2025 and before).

The question below provides 2 possible speeds and 2 timings (of lateness) between the faster and slower speeds.

These questions were common in Paper 2 of P6 Prelims.
Calculator usage is allowed.

Brenda is driving to meet her friend at a specified time.
If she travels from her home and drives at constant speed of 80km/h,
she will be 20 minutes late.
If she drives at a constant speed of 60 km/h,
she will be late by 45 minutes.

What is the distance she had to travel to meet her friend?

P4/P5 Math: Spend and Left after buying 2 items (multiples of each other)

This question type requires students to draw comparison models and also a part/whole model to visualize the problem sum.

Such questions are common in WA2 in P4 exams and also Paper 1 in P5 exams.
Calculator usage is not allowed.

Steffi has $77 to spend at the mall.
After she bought a book and a camera, she has $14 left.
The camera costs thrice as much as the book.

How much was the book?

Vintage camera

P6 Math: Circle with a Square (2 identical isosceles triangles)

This is a circle question that also requires knowledge of triangles and squares.

The radius is not given but the area of the square or triangle is given.
Students will find it difficult to find the area of the circle due to the missing radius.

Such questions appear in Paper 2 of Prelim papers.
Calculator usage is allowed.

P4/P5 Math: Pie Chart(Intermediate)

Pie Charts taught in P4 will require students to understand the meaning of the 90 degree and what fraction(of the total) the right-angled piece represents.

This question is slightly more complex and will require students to understand the comparison between the different parts of the pie chart(besides knowing that 90 degrees represent a quarter of the total)

Such questions usually appear in Section C of P4 exam papers.
P5 and P6 students can use this as extra practice for Paper 1 as well (no calculator usage).

An easier version of Pie Chart questions can also be found here.

P6 Math: 2 Overlapping Right-Angled Isosceles Triangles with Area Difference given

Though this question looks seemingly like a triangle question, it'd actually require the knowledge of area of squares.

Such questions are common in Paper 1 of P6 Prelim papers.
Calculator usage is not allowed.

P6 Math: Before and After Ratio made Equal at the end

This question type starts with a ratio and after both values undergo some decrease, a new ratio is given.
Both values undergo another addition and that causes both values to become the same at the end.

Such questions are common in P6 Prelim Paper 2.
Calculator usage is allowed.

Benedict and Erica has erasers in the ratio of 5:7 respectively.
After Benedict gave away 3/7 of his erasers and Erica sold some erasers,
the ratio of Benedict's to Erica's remaining erasers became 10:7.
Benedict then bought another 60 erasers and Erica bought 240 erasers.
Each have the same number of erasers at the end.

How many erasers does Erica have at first?

P6 Math: Composite Figure with Rectangles and Square and Triangles

A rectangle, composite figure made up of a square, 3 rectangles, has a line that splits each rectangles into 2 triangles as it goes from one corner to another corner of the composite rectangle.

Such composite figure questions are now common in Paper 1 of P6 prelim papers.
Calculator usage is not allowed.
